Zeelands Luister is typically very stable. She sits low in the water and weighs around 25 tonnes. However on 28 October 2013 there was a major storm in the South East of England with wind speeds of up to 80mph. The mooring was tested that day.

St Paul’s Cathedral from the river

The Thames Clipper is one of the best kept secrets on the River Thames. The river boat service run daily and stops along the river from the West End to Woolwich. This is a photo of St Paul’s en route home on the last service of the day.
Work in progress

The bathroom in the midst of the refit. There’s a new toilet to be fitted, and tiling and panelling to be completed. And then a new floor.
It’s all about the plumbing

The first thing people want to know when we tell them about the houseboat is how we deal with the cold and damp. It’s all about the heating and plumbing systems. This is a new dehumidifier, pressure hose and macerating toilet going aboard.
Wheelhouse

The wheelhouse used to be collapsible to enable the barge to pass under low bridges. It is now a permanent fixture that we’re going to clear out and turn into a usable living area in Spring 2014.
Out with the old bathroom

A shot of the old bathroom for posterity. We’re replacing the vacuum toilet with a macerating unit and the grey water systems are all being upgraded.
Dan on deck

Canary Wharf

The view across to the River Thames from South Dock marina to Canary Wharf.
Main bedroom

One of the sleeping cabins. The barge is double beam so it’s surprisingly large, for a barge. We’ll be sure to make the bed before we take photos in future.
Flying the flag for Northumberland

One of the first things we did when we bought the barge was raise the Northumberland flag.
Home from home.
